The role of FGS Council is to report to and make recommendations to the University Senate by way of the appropriate Senate standing committees. FGS Council facilitates and enhances communication among academic units with graduate programs. The role of elected graduate representatives on FGS Council is to confer with the graduate student body, provide information to FGS Council, and aid in the decision making process through voting during FGS Council meetings.
Who is eligible to participate?
Graduate students currently registered in a University of Victoria graduate degree program and planning to continue studies in 2021-2022 are eligible to run in the election. Graduate students currently registered in a University of Victoria graduate degree program are eligible to vote in this election. Visiting research students and non-degree students are not eligible to run nor to vote. Two (2) masters students and two (2) doctoral students will be elected.
What is the term of office?
The term of office for the graduate student seats on the Faculty of Graduate Studies Council are October 15, 2021 – 30 June, 2022.
When does the Faculty of Graduate Studies Council meet?
The Faculty of Graduate Studies Council will schedule meetings for fall term in October and November, and for spring term in January, February and March. An additional meeting may be required in April or May. Meetings are usually held from 1:30-3:30pm.
How is polling conducted?
Election polling will be held on the University of Victoria webvote system https://webvote.uvic.ca
How is the election governed?
This election is administered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in accordance with the bylaws and procedures of the Faculty. For more information, contact the Dean’s Assistant at email@example.com.
Appeals regarding this election procedure must be submitted in writing within three (3) days of the posting of the election result. Appeals must be submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. All appeals are decided by the Faculty of Graduate Studies Executive Committee. All appeal decisions are final.
