The UVIC Graduate Students’ Society will be holding a referendum on a proposed fee increase to the society’s Extended Health and Dental insurance plans.

The Extended Health and Dental Plan insurance plan fees are mandatory fees for all full time on-campus graduate students

Voting days:

Polling opens: 9 am Wednesday, April 25, 2018

Polling closes: 4 pm Friday, April 27, 2018

Ballot question:

The GSS has received a renewal offer for the Extended Health and Dental insurance plans. The renewal proposal includes both an increase to the Extended Health insurance plan fee and an adjustment to the Dental insurance plan fee to more accurately reflect plan usage. The alternative is to reduce coverage and maintain the current fee structure. Which option do you prefer?

OPTION A – Maintain current insurance coverage by making the following fee changes: Increase the Extended Health insurance plan fee by $26/year (from $377 to $403) and reduce the Dental insurance plan fee by $12/year (from $226 to $214) to maintain current coverage on both plans. (This would result in an overall increase of $14/year for students who are enrolled in both the Extended Health and Dental insurance plans.)

OPTION B – Change Extended Health Plan coverage and leave current fees unchanged at $377/year for the Extended Health insurance plan and $226/year for the Dental insurance plan. (This would increase the per-family deductible charged on first use of the Extended Health insurance plan from $10 to $50 each calendar year.)
