On May 1st, the new 2026-2027 GSS Executive Board met with Jessie Sunner, Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills to discuss the ongoing Post-Secondary Institution Review. The province’s 2026 budget has deferred funding for the development of the planned 510-bed residence building. The GSS will continue to fight to see this dorm opened as soon as possible. We will continue to work with the University and local municipalities to address the urgent need for student housing
On November 25th 2025, the BC government announced an independent review of the financial sustainability of Post-Secondary Institutions (PSIs), citing concerns with the rising deficits in many of our colleges and universities. This review will be performed by former BC deputy minister Don Avison, with consultation ending on January 15th

They have grouped their goals under three main areas: Connection & Recognition, Access & Support, and Engagement
